Thousands gathered in Daley Plaza and in suburban events in protests timed to coincide with a military parade in Washington celebrating the Army's 250th anniversary and President Donald Trump's 79th birthday.
An estimated 10,000 people were in attendance at the “No Kings” rally that began in Pioneer Park and marched north through the downtown area, the Salt Lake City Police Department said. Gunfire was heard at around 8 p.m., with video posted online showing protesters fleeing in terror.
"No Kings" Day organizers say it is more important than ever to have a "national day of peaceful protest" on June 14 following the decision by President Donald Trump to send in Marines and the National Guard to Los Angeles.
The Houston demonstration is one of several planned in the region throughout the day and is expected to draw thousands of protesters.
