Ford Motor Co. says it expects to take a $1.5 billion hit to its operating profit from tariffs this year and is withdrawing its full-year financial guidance due to the uncertainty created by the Trump administration’s evolving trade policy.

The $1.5 billion hit Ford now expects comes despite relief granted to automakers last week. Trump spared imports subject to the auto tariffs from paying additional levies targeting other goods, such as steel and aluminum. The White House also will phase in tariffs on auto parts over two years to give companies time to move production to the US.

Ford CEO Jim Farley said it's "essential" for U.S. policies to encourage exports as well as reward companies, such as Ford, for their American production
