Reds rookie Chase Burns became the first starting pitcher in the expansion era to strike out the first five batters he faced in his major league debut

Former Vol Chase Burns started for the Reds and made his Major League Baseball debut. He pitched five innings and recorded eight strikeouts against the Yankees. Burns totaled 81 pitches, including 53 strikes, against 21 batters. He struck out five consecutive batters to start the game and totaled six strikeouts against the first seven batters.

Aaron Judge’s first look at Chase Burns lasted four pitches, three of which were sliders − the last one darting away from Judge’s barrel as he swung and missed to end a spectacular debut inning for the Cincinnati Reds’ top prospect.
