Padres build big lead; Cease allows two runs in six-plus innings before three relievers close out team’s 11th victory in 14 games

Dylan Cease was impressive for six innings before San Diego’s All-Star-laden bullpen got into and out of trouble in the seventh and the Padres beat the Boston Red Sox 6-2 to take two of three.

The Red Sox handed Pivetta one of his worst starts of the season, scoring five runs against their former workhorse en route to a 10-2 win in Friday’s series opener. Boston scored four runs in the top of the fourth to seize control and Connor Wong blew the game open with a three-run double in the eighth.
