U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds announced that he's running to be the next governor of Florida in 2026, positioning himself as a possible successor to Gov. Ron DeSantis, who will reach his term limit for the office after serving eight years.

Donalds, who has been a close ally to President Donald Trump, would be the first Black governor of Florida and replace term-limited Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Donalds, a Congressman from Naples, hasn’t had much to say about the DeSantis family positioning itself for a third term in Tallahassee. He has preferred to let the endorsement from Trump, who won by double digits over Kamala Harris in November, do the talking for him.
