Social media titans Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk got prime seats at Donald Trump’s inauguration in January, among Cabinet nominees and the president’s own family. The seating arrangement seemed to signal a clear alliance between the tech world and America’s new, right-wing government.

TikTok is laying off global staff at its trust and safety unit which handles content moderation as part of a restructuring, three sources familiar with the matter said on Thursday.

The social media giant is at a crossroads. Facebook, once the undisputed leader, now seems out of sync with younger generations, who favor TikTok, Snapchat, and even Instagram. But Mark Zuckerberg is not ready to let his flagship platform fade into irrelevance.
