Earlier in the session, it looked like the industry might be spared. After the Senate passed its version of a THC ban in March, the House committee led by King swapped it out for their own version that would limit synthetic and high-potency products but allow specialty hemp stores to continue operations, with pricier licenses and fees.

The House on Wednesday approved the ban, after previously considering proposals to preserve the industry by tightening regulations.

The battle over hemp products in Texas will come to a head Tuesday evening as Senate Bill 3 reaches the Texas House floor, leaving legislators to decide whether to regulate or completely ban hemp-based products in the state.
