Legislation that sets in motion the closure of Minnesota's second largest prison over the next four years is on its way to Gov. Tim Walz's desk for signature.

The phased closure of Minnesota Correctional Facility– Stillwater has been confirmed by state officials on Thursday. The closure of Minnesota's second largest prison will take place over the next four years, which follows a budget agreement being reached between Gov. Tim Walz and the Minnesota Legislature.

On Thursday, the Department of Corrections announced it will close the Stillwater prison in two phases spanning four years. Andersen said he is also disappointed that the decision was made without union input.
