There’s a new rule going on in the SEC, something many of you probably saw come across your timeline on Thursday, and it does affect the Oklahoma Sooners, along with every other team in the SEC.

With an additional conference game, SEC schools might look to cancel future matchups against Big 12 opponents.

The Southeastern Conference will officially switch from an eight-game league schedule to a nine-game slate in 2026, the conference announced Thursday. Inside Texas has long written about growing support for the nine-game league slate,

“Playing nine Southeastern Conference games, and 10 Power Four games out of 12 contests per year, obviously gives our loyal Auburn fans more SEC football to watch, but at the same time ensures that long-standing regional rivalries are maintained,” Cohen said in the statement.
