Nearly two million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are leaving their refugee camps and crowded shelters to finally return home after the breakthrough cease-fire deal, only to find that their homes and neighborhoods are nothing but ash and rubble after 15-months of brutal warfare.

President Donald Trump's plan for the United States to take over Gaza, permanently displacing Palestinians who live there and creating the "Riviera of the Middle East," has upset Arab nations and Western allies and would overturn decades of American policy in the region.

President Trump called for the U.S. to "own” the Gaza Strip, “level the site” and develop it, explicitly calling for displacing Palestinians from their homeland as the region’s leaders struggle to maintain a fragile ceasefire.

"We'll own it, and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site. Level the site and get rid of the destroyed buildings," he said.
