Modest tsunami waves arrived in California after a powerful earthquake in Russia, damaging a dock in Crescent City. Advisories have been downgraded or canceled for the majority of the state.

Waves were reported along a wide swath of the Northern California coast, including in San Francisco. The rest of the state was under a lesser tsunami advisory.

Japanese officials also downgraded tsunami warnings in the southern half of the country as 1.9 million residents faced evacuation orders along its Pacific coast.
