Google showed off its latest version of Project Astra today, revealing that it made an AI agent that can control Android apps.

Next is Project Mariner, which develops agentic capabilities in Gemini. It was launched in December 2024, and Google has been exploring various research prototypes of human-agent systems. The company also previewed a browser-focused AI agent that can make reservations at a restaurant and book appointments.

Google unveiled dozens of new AI updates at I/O. Some of them seem to overlap significantly.

Google showed off quite a few things revolving around AI at Google I/O 2025, and one of those things was the new argentic capabilities it’s been working on for its Project Astra technology. This is likely going to be something that we see come to Gemini Live at some point down the line.
