Japanese right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano, a 35-year-old rookie, pitched five shutout innings against the first-place Yankees, who were unlucky in the sixth when Orioles center fielder Cedric Mullins reached over the center-field wall to turn a two-run homer for Paul Goldschmidt into an inning-ending out that preserved a 4-0 lead.
